How to treat dehydrated skin

In this article we will talk about one of the most famous skin concerns: dehydration. Dehydrated skin is complicated, and most of the time, when we hear this term, it’s not used correctly.

Dehydrated skin, in fact, is not a skin type, but a skin concern and something that can be present in any skin type, whether you have dry skin, normal skin, combination skin or oily skin.

Many people think that dehydrated and dry have the same meaning in skincare, or at least very similar, when in reality there is actually a big difference based on two terms: hydration versus moisture.

Hydration is typically water based, while moisture is more oil based. When it comes to dry skin, that’s the skin type that is devoid of proper moisture to be able to hold all the hydration in. Our skin naturally creates oils that seats on the surface of our skin to make sure it seals all the water and ensure it doesn’t dry out. But a lot of the time our skin doesn’t do a good enough job, which is why if you have dry skin it’s important to use products that are targeted for your necessities to be able to boost the moisture as up as possible.

Dehydration focuses around the word hydration, and as we said, is water based. We do loose a lot of water from our skin, and it’s important to ensure that we are not only properly moisturizing, but also boosting hydration levels of our skin, because by doing this we are keeping the proper amount of water and oil that we need to function properly.

If you have dehydrated skin you could have any skin type, your skin can be overproducing oil and sebum while still lacking that necessary hydration. The most important thing is to take care of the root issue and not of the only things you can see on the surface level.

The first thing to do for dehydrated skin is to implement your overnight moisture, to prevent water loss while you sleep and the overproducing of oil to compensate that. It’s also important to not skip your daily moisturizer, that could be also lightweight. Focus on hydration, and to ensure that you will need a hydrating serum, maybe with hyaluronic acid. The final secret is to be consistent, remember to not skip any day, and you will soon see results.
